Daniel Owen is the Director of Product Development – Specialty Industrial Coatings for Desert Polymer Flooring, Alta Paints & Coatings, and other member companies within the StarStep Performance Coatings Group umbrella. In this role, he leads innovation across the organization’s portfolio of high-performance brands. With more than 25 years of experience in the specialty coatings industry, Daniel oversees formulation strategy, new product development, and technical advancements in epoxy, urethane, polyaspartic, and cementitious systems.
A respected expert in the industry, Daniel began his career sweeping the floors of Arizona Polymer Flooring (APF), his family’s manufacturing business. Over the years, he worked in virtually every area of the company — from production to R&D to executive leadership — ultimately serving as CEO of APF, where he helped transform the company from a regional player into a nationally recognized brand.
Prior to joining StarStep, Daniel owned and operated Custom Formulated Products, a technical consultancy focused on specialty coatings. He has also held roles in sales, field installation, and contracting through his time as co-founder of Tenec Coatings, giving him deep insight into both product performance and customer needs in the field.
At StarStep, Daniel applies his operational and technical expertise to develop next-generation products tailored to demanding industrial applications, while supporting strategic growth and innovation across the organization.
