The SLABHARD® Grind & Seal WB System is a waterborne polyurethane concrete protection system engineered to enhance, protect and extend the life of mechanically prepared concrete surfaces in commercial, institutional and light-industrial environments. The system combines mechanical concrete preparation, crack and surface repair, a waterborne polyurethane sealing coat and a durable waterborne polyurethane finish to create an attractive, long-lasting surface while preserving the natural character of the concrete. Designed for environments where low-odor installation is important, the system provides excellent abrasion and chemical resistance, UV stability and simplified maintenance.
Recommended Uses
The SLABHARD® Grind & Seal WB System is suited for concrete floor installations requiring a natural architectural appearance, durable protection and low-odor application. Typical environments include:
- Retail and commercial spaces
- Schools and universities
- Office buildings
- Healthcare facilities
- Laboratories and research facilities
- Manufacturing facilities
- Warehouses
- Automotive showrooms
- Restaurants and food service areas
- Lobbies and public spaces
- Decorative architectural concrete floors
Exclusions: This system enhances existing concrete rather than creating a new resinous flooring surface. Existing cracks, repairs, bug holes, color variation and other substrate characteristics remain part of the finished architectural appearance. Aggregate exposure levels cannot be guaranteed until mechanical grinding begins. Consult individual product Technical Data Sheets and confirm substrate and environmental suitability before installation.
Advantages
- Waterborne Polyurethane Chemistry → Low-Odor Installation:
Waterborne polyurethane technology provides durable concrete protection with reduced odor, supporting installation in occupied commercial and institutional environments. - Decorative Concrete Finish → Natural Architectural Appearance:
Mechanical grinding enhances the existing concrete and exposes its natural characteristics rather than concealing the substrate beneath a new flooring surface. - Multiple Aggregate Exposure Options → Configurable Finished Appearance:
Salt & pepper, medium aggregate and full aggregate exposure options provide flexibility in the finished appearance based on project design requirements and existing substrate conditions. - Excellent Abrasion Resistance → High-Traffic Performance:
The waterborne polyurethane finish provides excellent abrasion resistance for concrete surfaces exposed to regular foot and operational traffic. - Excellent Chemical Resistance → Durable Surface Protection:
The protective finish provides chemical and stain resistance for commercial, institutional and light-industrial environments. - UV-Stable Finish → Long-Term Appearance Retention:
UV-stable, non-yellowing polyurethane technology helps preserve the finished appearance of the concrete over time. - Multiple Finish Sheens → Appearance Flexibility:
Gloss, Semi-Gloss and Matte finish options allow the final sheen to be selected based on project design requirements.

System Build
The SLABHARD® Grind & Seal WB System is a waterborne polyurethane concrete protection system designed to enhance and protect mechanically prepared concrete. Each component serves a defined functional role within the system and must not be substituted with non-approved materials. Depending on project requirements and substrate conditions, the system may include the following components:
Surface Preparation
- Process: Mechanical grinding and concrete preparation in accordance with ICRI guidelines
- Function: Prepares the existing concrete substrate and establishes the specified level of aggregate exposure
Crack & Surface Repair (As Needed)
- Product: PROFILL™ Fast Patch
- Function: Rapid-setting polyurethane-alloy repair material used to repair cracks, joints, pits, spalls and other localized surface defects prior to sealing
First Coat
- Product: SLABSEAL® 200
- Function: Two-component waterborne aliphatic polyurethane applied as the initial sealing coat over mechanically prepared concrete to enhance appearance and prepare the surface for the selected finish
Finish Coat
- Product: SLABSEAL® 200
- Function: Two-component waterborne aliphatic polyurethane finish coat providing UV stability, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, stain resistance and the desired sheen
- Finish Options: Clear Gloss, Clear Semi-Gloss or Clear Matte
Semi-Gloss and Matte finish coats require an initial application of SLABSEAL® 200 Clear Gloss before application of the selected finish coat.
Each component performs a specific function within the flooring assembly and must not be substituted with non-approved materials.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Is the SLABHARD® Grind & Seal WB System?
The SLABHARD® Grind & Seal WB System is a decorative concrete grind and seal protection system that enhances existing concrete through mechanical grinding followed by application of waterborne polyurethane protective sealers.
What Environments Is This System Designed For?
The system is suited for retail and commercial spaces, schools and universities, office buildings, healthcare facilities, laboratories, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, automotive showrooms, restaurants, food service areas, lobbies and other commercial, institutional and light-industrial environments.
What Makes the Grind & Seal WB System Different From the SB System?
The Grind & Seal WB System utilizes waterborne polyurethane technology, providing a low-odor formulation while delivering excellent abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, UV stability and long-term concrete protection.
Is the SLABHARD® Grind & Seal WB System a Coating?
No. It is a decorative concrete grind and seal protection system that enhances existing concrete through mechanical grinding followed by application of waterborne polyurethane protective sealers.
Does This System Cover Imperfections in the Concrete?
No. Existing concrete characteristics including aggregate, repairs, bug holes, color variation and other natural substrate characteristics remain visible and become part of the finished architectural appearance.
What Determines the Finished Appearance?
The level of grinding, aggregate exposure selected, finish sheen selected and condition of the existing concrete substrate collectively determine the final appearance.
What Aggregate Exposure Options Are Available?
The system offers Salt & Pepper, Medium Aggregate and Full Aggregate Exposure options. Final appearance depends on the condition and composition of the existing concrete substrate.
What Finish Options Are Available?
SLABSEAL® 200 is available in Clear Gloss, Clear Semi-Gloss and Clear Matte finishes. Semi-Gloss and Matte systems require an initial application of SLABSEAL® 200 Clear Gloss before the selected finish coat.
Can Every Project Achieve Full Aggregate Exposure?
Not necessarily. Aggregate exposure depends on the existing concrete placement, finishing practices and grinding depth. Final appearance cannot be guaranteed until grinding begins.
Is the System VOC Compliant?
Yes. The Grind & Seal WB System utilizes VOC-compliant system components.
